Google Wins YouTube Shorts Trademark Lawsuit in London Court

Google triumphs in UK trademark battle over YouTube Shorts

Google wins YouTube Shorts trademark lawsuit: London – Google has fought off a trademark suit filed by British company Shorts International, specializing in short films, relating to YouTube’s short videos service “Shorts.” High Court in London held on Thursday that there was no risk of confusing the brand between “YouTube Shorts” and the Shorts International trademark brand.

In his written judgment, the judge, Michael Tappin, said the “shorts” trademarking would not have an effect on the Shorts International distinctiveness, trademarking characters, and reputation.

Shorts International, a company with a television channel showing only short films, sued Google at the end of last year for trademark infringement. This came after the launch of YouTube Shorts towards the end of last year. This platform is Google’s alternative to TikTok. “It is abundantly clear that the Shorts service has its roots in YouTube and not in Shorts International,”

Google’s lawyer, Lindsay Lane, argued earlier this month, and thus the case was dismissed by the court. Google, as well as Shorts International, refused immediate comment on the verdict.
